The work-study positions with Student Life require that the successful applicant is enrolled in at least 6 credits during the summer semester. All work-study positions can be applied for through the CareerLink program, or by directly submitting a resume and cover letter to Whitney or Student Life.

New Student Orientation Assistant – 1 position for 5 hours a week (possibly more)

Job Summary: Under the guidance of the Student Life Programmer(Whitney), the New Student Orientation Assistant will aid in the planning and delivery of the Fall 2011 New Student Orientation program, the Six Weeks to Student Success program, and an Orientation program for a mature student audience. The New Student Orientation Assistant will work closely with Orientation Leaders to develop a WOW-factor for Orientation, such as a flashmob, skit or video. The incumbent will meet with the Programmer on a weekly basis to update on current events and to ensure the continued success of the New Student Orientation program.


 – Ability to work well as a team member as well as independently with minimal supervision

– Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills – verbal and written

– Must be exceptionally reliable and punctual

– Ability to analyze and solve problems; resourceful

– Ability to visualize and create tasks required to obtain objectives

– Ability to prepare graphic material and edit images

– Ability to clearly communicate creative concepts with Student Life staff as well as staff in IMS and Print Services

– Ability to follow through on tasks

– Ability to interact with a wide range of diverse members of the UFV community including the student body, faculty, staff and suppliers

– Ability to analyze and solve problems; resourceful

– Ability to be discreet and tactful; to handle confidential items

– Ability to work with multiple deadlines with attention to detail

– Ability to be flexible
