Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger, created by The Imagine Render Group. Further information on this global initiative can be found at: http://www.emptybowls.net. The basic premise is simple: students, staff, faculty, and administration work together to create handcrafted bowls. Following the creation and design of the bowls, guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread on Thursday, April 21 at the UFV Abbotsford (further details to follow). In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. The money raised is donated to the Abbotsford Food Bank, an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity.

Our goal is to create 90 bowls and in order to so, we require your help. We are arranging a number of bowl making sessions including a UFV employee / student employee session. It is a two-step process where in the first session you would create a bowl, there is then a week process before you come back to paint/design the bowl(s). Stop by University House on Monday March 28th anytime between 11am-1pm to create your bowl(s), and then again on Monday April 4th anytime between 1-3pm to paint and design the bowl(s). We will provide pizza and beverages on March 28th prior to making your bowl(s). *Please note that all bowls created will become part of the fundraiser as mentioned above.

Nakita Nolan (nakita.nolan@student.ufv.ca) is a Social Work practicum student working with Student Life for taking the lead on this project. There will be bowl making sessions every Monday and Thursday, and if you have a dozen individuals we can bring the workshop to you. Please contact Nakita if you would like to arrange a different session.
